The story of 100 homes
At our second Church Leaders’ Lunch in October 2017, God clearly spoke to a gathering of around 120 church leaders about the need for us to get involved in meeting the needs of children in care. (full story here).
We gathered those from the church who were already working in this area and also started meeting with Nottingham City Council to understand the needs better.
We learned that there were around 630 children in care, with more being added all the time, and that the council only had enough foster carers for around half of them! We also learned that there were many Christians already active in this area of city life and that if we joined together we could do much more than we could apart. As we started to act, one of the first things we sought to do was to recruit 100 new foster homes from the church in Nottingham - The 100 Homes Campaign.
To date, 17 new homes have been approved with another 4 who are currently going through the 6 month approval process.
Are you sure God is calling you NOT to foster? Even if you are sure, it takes a whole church getting involved to foster a child and so we know that everyone can do something.

“Opening your home and your life to a vulnerable child is surely one of the greatest gifts someone can give back to our city and I urge all Christians in Nottingham to consider whether this is something they could offer or support”
“Jesus placed great emphasis on the importance of caring for children and the most vulnerable in our society. Therefore this should not be a special interest for some Christians, but a concern for the whole Church that compels us to compassionate action.”
“There is a significant need in our city of Nottingham for more people to become a foster carer or a volunteer with “Safe Families for Children’. Together, as Christians, we can make a difference to the lives of many more children in our city by giving them a home. I would encourage all Christians to support this new initiative”
“I am fully supportive of the efforts of this fostering initiative in bringing the church to be fully involved as this is what pure and undefiled religion means ‘- James 1:27”
““We long for Nottingham to be transformed. This is only going to happen if we, the church, practice faith in both words and deeds; if we roll up our sleeves and are actively compassionate. One of the ways we can do this is by making our homes available for those who desperately need them. We wholeheartedly support this new initiative and pray that hundreds of Christians respond to this very real need in our City.”
“We want to see this city transformed. What better way than through caring for the vulnerable children of our city. I encourage all Christians to get involved in this initiative in whatever way they can.”
“This timely initiative seeks to meet a very real need in our city. I encourage every Christian in Nottingham to prayerfully consider what part God may be asking them to play, as His people, to bring hope in the midst of hurt”
““We are delighted to support this fantastic initiative to call on the churches of this great city to reflect, pray and ask God about how we together can support and engage with this vital issue. What a powerful statement the church can make to our city and our council as we respond to this rally cry. We urge you to think and pray about what your response could be. Together let’s hit this target of 100 new households recruited to foster and influence tomorrow today”
“This initiative is a bold one by the Christian community in Nottingham and is to be highly commended. It is a gospel imperative to care for our neighbour, from the very youngest the oldest and this action is a response to prayer and the need to make faith real, caring for the vulnerable and seeking justice for all God’s children”
“100 new foster homes in the next 3 years. What a blessing to the children offered new, loving homes! What a God-pleasing ambition! What a tangible way for the Christian community to say, ‘we are here, and we care!’ This great initiative has my whole-hearted support.”
“For those looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of others, or those who simply have room and a heart for children, fostering is a good way to do a good thing. I commend the initiative to uncover more people who can care by fostering.”
