• IMAGINE OUR CITY BLESSED

What would happen if we all blessed our city, by walking and praying every single street?

Take a moment to imagine what might happen if the whole city was blessed and prayed for.

And what might happen in your own neighbourhood?

Every single person and organisation in Nottingham - Blessed!

Homes & families … businesses … schools, colleges and universities … children & teachers … young adults & lecturers … coffee shops, meeting & social places … high street shops … places of government … hospitals … those working in health and social care … the police, law courts & solicitors … firefighters … charity workers … churches … peacemakers … artists & creatives … journalists … etc etc etc

    … THE WHOLE CITY BLESSED!

‘’I am giving you every square inch of the land you set your foot on.” Joshua 1:3

In May and June 2023, Nottingham City Prayer are inviting the whole church to join an exciting adventure of walking every street in Greater Nottingham - praying for God’s blessing - everywhere.

This initiative purposely coincides with Thy Kingdom Come which runs from 18th to 28th May. Why not plan some major prayer-walking during those 10 days.

And on 25th May we have a major united church gathering at Trent Vineyard. Alongside an evening of calling on God for Nottingham, we also plan to check-in on our joint progress of prayer-walking the whole city.

Get the app on your phone - and let’s start prayer-walking

  • EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO GET STARTED

It would be great if your whole church was involved in this initiative. Do speak with your church leader to find out if there are already plans for your church to get involved, and if this is ‘news’, do gently encourage them to consider the possibilities. This is an exciting way to pray for your area of Nottingham, as we aim to see Our City Blessed.

Of course, there is nothing to stop you prayer-walking any street at any time, but in order for us to co-ordinate our efforts, we would ask you to:

    1. Download the “City Blessed” Guide and take a quick look (see the Resources section of this website).

    2. Use the Nottingham Prayer Walk App (see below) to select the streets you would like to cover.

    3. Join with at least one other person (ideally) and pray while walking those streets.

    4. Use the App to confirm when those streets have been covered.

    5. If you sense God speaking to you about the area where you prayer walk, we would love to hear about that. There’s a link in the App named Prayer Stories, which you’ll find under More on the main screen. Clicking here takes you to the Prayer Stories padlet too

    6. Prayer Needs can also be added in the App on the main screen - first click on an area (like Sneinton)

    THE APP

The app has been specifically designed and developed for Nottingham City Prayer. We join with many other cities who have used the app to prayer-walk their locations, including Coventry, Sheffield, Portsmouth, Aberdeen, Wakefield, Warwick, Leamington, Derby, Rotherham, Manchester, Bedworth and Leeds.

It’s not available on app stores - it can be accessed by clicking the following link:

    NOTTINGHAM PRAYER WALK APP

The app can be downloaded onto your computer, or tablet, but it works best on a smartphone if you have one.

    2. Enter your details and make a note of your username and password (you’ll need them to log in).

    3. Once you have registered you will be sent a verification link to the email address you provide. This will say “Activate Your Prayer Walk App Account”. Please check your junk/clutter folders if it doesn’t appear quickly in your inbox.

    4. Click the verification link, then log in using your username and password, and you should be in.

The following is is an unfamiliar step … though you’ll need it - adding the app with its icon onto your smartphone

With the app open on your phone:

    APPLE

Tap on SHARE symbol at bottom of page

Scroll down and select “Add to Home Page”

    ANDROID

click 3 dots in the top right of screen

Select Install Nottingham City Prayer App

or add to your home screen

  • 1. I’VE NEVER PRAYER-WALKED BEFORE. WHAT IS IT?

There is nothing complicated about prayer-walking. It is simply ‘prayer on the move’! To find out more, please see the City Blessed User Guide and additional resources in the Resources section of this website. Don’t be put off because you’ve not done it before. You’ll find it surprisingly easy!

    2. CAN I GET INVOLVED, IF MY CHURCH ISN’T INVOLVED?

Of course! We would still love to hear which church you are part of, which is information you can enter as you access the App. If you are not currently part of a church and you’d like to find a church, contact us, letting us know what type of church you are looking for and where you live. We’ll try to help.

    3. I’M UNABLE TO DO THE WALKING, CAN I STILL BE INVOLVED?

Yes! Please see our guidance for ‘non-walkers’ for ways that you can partner with other walkers or pray using street view. This can be found under the ‘Resources’ section.

    4. SHOULD I DO THIS BY MYSELF OR WITH OTHERS?

You are welcome to join together with friends, family or members of your church community to prayer walk the streets together, and we would encourage this wherever possible.

You are also welcome to prayer-walk on your own, but please consider where you are walking, the time of day and your own safety as a priority. See our Prayer Walking Guide for more details, which is under the Resources section.

    5. I’M NOT GOOD WITH TECHNOLOGY, AND I DON’T THINK I’LL BE ABLE TO USE THE APP. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

We totally understand! Many people in the city will feel like this, or simply don’t have a smart phone or suitable device. That said, we would love to capture your praying! So, please try to find someone who does have a smart phone (or who is tech-savvy) and ask them to help you. It will be very simple for them. They will need to access the App while you are in contact with them, so they can enter your details and agree which streets you are planning to prayer-walk.

    6. WHAT IF SOMEONE HAS EARMARKED MY STREETS BEFORE ME?

We understand some people will be excited about prayer-walking the streets near where they live or work. You may go onto the App to find someone has already ‘earmarked’ them, or already ‘prayed’ them. You have two choices:

    - Either prayer-walk them anyway (although you won’t be able to register secondary coverage through the App).

    - Look for some different streets to prayer-walk. We may well find that in order to prayer-walk the entire city many of us have to venture into areas we are not yet familiar with. We are sure the Lord will use us as we do that!

    7. WHAT DO I DO IF I SENSE GOD SPEAKING TO ME ABOUT THE AREA I AM PRAYER-WALKING?

We would recommend that you make a note of what you are sensing. You may need to revisit that street or area and keep praying. Share your thoughts with others in your church, and also add a Prayer Story to the padlet (there’s a link inside the app too by clicking More on the main screen, and then Prayer Stories. We will review all stories as a Planning Team and look for patterns and consistencies emerging.
